Team Fitness Plans for Young Athletes

 

So, you have found yourself coaching or training a youth sports team this season! We understand the situation you’re in because we’re coaches too. Whether you’re looking for new ideas and activities, are motivated to progress through the coaching pathways, or simply just want to know where to start, we want to make your life easier. That’s why we created this resource.

 

We've spent years and all manner of approaches refining how to incorporate fitness effectively into both sports practices and dedicated fitness and conditioning sessions, and now we want to pass this knowledge on to you.

 

This book includes six comprehensive done-for-you session plans and a bonus activities section for three different age groups: ages 7-10 years, 11-14 years and 15-18 years. They focus on developing ATHLETICISM. They will improve your players’ FITNESS plus their ability to perform their sports skills in ANY SPORT.

 

Each session provided is 1-hour long. How you use them is up to you. You could do a new session every time, or repeat a session 2-3 times before you move onto the next. The sessions work best as they are written, but you can also split sessions into smaller segments and do them in ‘warm-up’ times at practices, or spend less time on each activity to condense the overall session.

 

We have selected activities that:
- Require minimal equipment - some require a ball or cones/markers but that is about it.
- Require minimal technical knowledge from you the coach.
- Use bodyweight exercises.
- Can be done in any moderate-large open space; e.g. part of a field, court, turf, or gymnasium.

The activities in this book have proven time and time again to be effective, fun, and challenging. It focuses on the doing the essentials, the right way.
